Women’s Crochet Sweater Pattern Free Tutorial Step By Step

Crochet Sweater PatternPerfect for those cooler summer days and evenings, the Bowen Pullover is light and breezy made with a size 3 soft cotton mix. Designed in five women’s sizes (xs, s, m, l, xl), the sweater manufactured with a size 3 cotton blend yarn fits relaxedly.

Working from the top down in a constant round, this crochet sweater lacks any one seam wherever. This sweater is worked from the top down, hence changing the length to suit you is rather simple.

Show the bottom ribbing by either leaving it untucked or tucked in. In any case you cannot go wrong.

Notes

To ensure a proper fit, it is very important that you first meet gauge. The sweater can be made in 5 sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL) beginning at the top and working down to the bottom edge.

The pattern is written for all sizes with instructions for each size written in parentheses, for example: (XS, S, M, L, XL). The sweater is made in a continuous round. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round. As you work, the right side or outside of the sweater will always be facing.

The back of the sweater will be the side where your rounds begin and end. When making the four increases around the shoulders, you will always work the 3 dc into the middle dc from the previous round. The pattern begins on the next page.

DO NOT remove the four stitch markers that you placed for the sleeves.

Round (18, 20, 24, 26, 28) : {fpdc in next st, dc in next st} repeat around (112, 120, 136, 152,160)

Round (19, 21, 25, 27, 29) : {dc in next st, fpdc in next st} repeat around (112, 120, 136, 152, 160)

Repeat the last two rounds until the desired length is achieved. The bottom ribbing will add another 2” to the length of the sweater. When working the last round before the ribbing, work a sc in the last stitch of the round, slst in the top of the first stitch, fasten off and weave in loose ends. See instructions below for making the bottom ribbing .

Bottom Ribbing (use a G/4.25 mm hook)

The Ch 1 at the beginning of each round DOES NOT count as a st. At the end of each round, slst in the first st to join. With the right side of the sweater facing, attach yarn to the bottom side edge with a slip stitch (see photo to right).

Round 1: Ch 1, hdc in same st and in each st around, join (112, 120, 136, 152, 160)

Round 2: Ch 1, fpdc in first st, bpdc in next st, {fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st} repeat around, join (112, 120, 136, 152, 160)

Rounds 3-7: repeat round 2

Feel free to repeat or omit round 2 as many times as necessary until the desired length is achieved. Fasten off leaving a 6” tail for weaving in. See sleeve instructions below.

Sleeves (use a H/5 mm hook)

The sleeves are made in a continuous round. Mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker. There will be a hole at the base of the underarm that you will weave closed at the end of the pattern.

With the front of the sweater facing, attach yarn to the marked stitch at the base of the right sleeve (see photo to right).

Round 1 (All Sizes): fpdc in same st, dc in next st, {fpdc in next st, dc in next st} repeat around, your last stitch will be made in the second marked stitch (40, 44, 52, 58, 64)
