This crochet sweater vest design contains both a photo instruction and a link to a video tutorial to make the process as simple as possible.
This design is for women’s sizes XS-XXL. If you have any questions when making this pattern, they will be answered therein, but if not, please mail me.

- #6 Super bulky yarn
- I used 2 colors of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick #6 Super bulky
- Crochet hook sizes 9mm and 10mm
- Scissors

- 4 pieces of (28mm) 1.18″ button (This is optional)

ABOUT THE PATTERN
This pattern is made from the bottom up. We will crochet the front and back panels at the same time until we reach the armpits. Then, we will make the upper left, followed by the upper back and then upper right.
Then we’ll crochet the hood, collar, pockets and add the edging. Last, we’ll add the buttons (optional). You can make this as a single color as well.
Notes :
- The crochet sweater vest pattern is written in English US terminology
- The pattern is made as US women’s sizes XS( S, M, L, XL, XXL )
- In this picture I have demonstrated with size Small

- Color A = 470( 530, 610, 680, 760, 820 ) yards
- Color B = 100( 100, 110, 115, 120, 120 ) yards
Gauge blocked : 6.5 sc X 7 rows = 4″

Note : For the main panel, we’re going to use the 10mm crochet hook and color A
Row 1 ( WS ) : ch 61( 65, 73, 77, 85, 89 ), 1 sc into second ch from hook and each ch across.
Total of 60( 64, 72, 76, 84, 88 ) st
Row 2 ( RS ) : Turn, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), 1 sc into each st across. Total of 60( 64, 72, 76, 84, 88 ) st
Row 3 – Row 16( 16, 16, 18, 18, 18 ) : REP Row 2

Sew the shoulders together
Fold your vest right sides facing each other, we’ll sew on the wrong side. Sew 5( 6, 8, 9, 11, 12 ) st the front and back panel together, using any method you prefer. Both shoulders sewn the same.

Crochet The Hood
Notes :
- For the hood, we’re going to use 10mm crochet hook and color A
- For the hood, all the sizes are the same so it’ll be the same stitch and row count
- Turn your vest right side out, We will start crocheting the hood starting with the top corner of the right front panel and continue around the neck to the top left front panel corner. We will turn back the other direction and keep repeating.
Row 1 : Add new yarn into the top right front corner, ch 2 ( do not count as a st ), 1 dc into the same st, 1 dc into next st and each st until you reach the top left corner
( When you reach the shoulder seam make 2 dc into each of the shoulder seam ). Total of 28 st.

Row 2 : Turn, ch 2 ( do not count as a st ), 1 dc into each st across. Total of 28 st
Row 3 – Row 13 : REP Row 2
The end of row 13, cut the yarn and leave 16-18″ long tail
After you’re done with the hood, we’re going to sew the top of the hood by using the tail that we left earlier and make sure to sew on the inside.

Pocket /Backing ( Make 2 )
Notes :
- For the pocket/backing, we’re going to use 10mm crochet hook and color A
- For the pocket/backing, all the sizes are the same so it’ll be the same stitch and row count
Row 1 : ch 13, 1 sc into second ch from hook and each ch across. Total of 12 st
Row 2 : Turn, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ), 1 sc into each st across. Total of 12 st
Row 3 – Row 13 : REP Row 2
The end of row 13 cut the yarn and leave about 30-40″ long tail, enough to sew around the pocket.
Sew the pocket
We’re going to sew the pocket in the inside, place your pocket backing square over the pocket with the top about half an inch above the pocket opening.
Sew all the way around the pocket backing using any method you prefer: Make sure you DON’T sew through the outside, just pick up your stitches from the inside. (Check out the video if it sounds confusing).

Crochet around the collar
Notes :
- For the hood, we’re going to use the 9mm crochet hook and color B
- We’re going to crochet into the end of each row of the front panels and the hood ( sp for reference )
- With your vest right side out. Start the collar working from the bottom right corner. Work all the way up and around the hood, back down to the left corner. We’ll turn back the other direction and keep repeating.
Row 1 : Add new yarn into the right bottom front corner, ch 1 ( do not count as a st ),1 sc into each sp util you reach the beginning of the hood,2 sc into each st of the hood part until you reach the last sp of the hood, 1 sc. into each sp across to the left bottom front corner.
Total of 152( 152, 152, 156, 156, 156 ) st ( If you have a couple less or more st it’s ok ).

Row 3 – Row 5( 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 ) : REP Row 2, cut the yarn and weave all the ends If you’d like a smaller or bigger collar, just repeat row 2 less or more times
Crochet around the pocket edges
Note : For the pocket edges, we’re going to use a 9mm crochet hook and color B
With your vest right side out, we’ll crochet on the right side. Add new yarn into the corner of the pocket opening and then make a sl st into each st around, cut the yarn and weave the ends.
Shoulder cuff edges
Notes :
- For the shoulder cuff edges, we’re going to use a 9mm crochet hook and color B
- We’re going to crochet into the end of each row of the shoulder cuff edge ( sp for reference )
With your vest right side out, we’ll crochet on the right side. Add new yarn into the corner of the arm pit and then ch 1, 1 sc into same sp, 1 sc into next sp and each sp around, cut the yarn and weave the ends.
Adding the button ( optional )
I added four buttons, but it’s totally optional. You can use 2-3 or none, it’s up to your preference.
You can also place them however you like, left side or right. I placed them 5″ apart, but again, you can place them how you like.
There’s no need for button holes since we’re just using the space in between the stitches. It makes it easier to place the buttons.
