Crochet Shawl Step By Step Tutorial

Crochet Shawl is a triangle shawl made from top to bottom. Its simple and happy crochet trip is created by the graphic textured lines and delicate lace textures.

Ideal with your chosen solid colour or a yarn that changes colour. For a chunkier hug, try it in a heavier weight yarn with a larger hook.

Materials

  • 1 x Scheepjes Woolly Whirl
  • Shade (476) – Custard Cream Centre 220g
  • 70% cotton / 30% wool
  • 1000 metres
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook

Finished shawl size

  • 180 cm x 90 cm

Abbreviations – US Crochet Terms

  • ch                    chain

Pattern Notes:

  • Odd numbered rows are right side rows.
  • Wet block your shawl using measurements as a guide
  • Any weight yarn and hook size can be used – finish on Pattern Row 12 before starting the Border Rows.
  • Stitches in { } are the stitch count either side of the centre ch2sp
  • The centre of the shawl is the centre ch2sp (chain 2 space), this is shown in BOLD in the pattern.

Special Stitches

dc 2 tog

double crochet 2 together – over the next (ch2sp, dc, ch2sp)

*Yarn over hook, insert hook into next ch2sp, yarn over hook, draw yarn through, yarn over hook pull through 2 loops, skip dc, repeat from * once more, yarn over hook, pull through 3 loops.

sc 2 tog

single crochet 2 together: – worked over (dc, ch1sp, dc2tog, ch1sp, dc)

Insert hook into next dc, yarn over hook, draw yarn through, skip (ch1sp, dc2tog from previous row and ch1sp), insert hook into next dc, yarn over hook, draw yarn through, yarn over hook pull through all 3 loops.

V-st

V Stitch – [dc, ch1, dc] in same stitch or chsp

Picot

Ch3, slip stitch in 3rd ch from hook

Set Up Rows

Using the 3.5mm hook:

Row 1: into a magic ring, work;  ch3 (counts as dc), dc, ch1, dc, ch 2, dc, ch1, 2dc. Turn.

{3 dc,1 ch1sp} – stitches in { } are the stitch count either side of the centre ch2sp now and throughout

Alternative Row 1:

Row 1: Ch4, (counts as base ch and 1st dc), [dc, ch1, dc, ch 2, dc, ch1, 2dc] in 4th ch from hook. Turn.
