Crochet Tote Bag – For the grocery store, farmer’s market, or even beach – these cotton mesh bags are incredibly useful, expandable, and durable. Plus they take up virtually no space when empty.
AND they’re super easy to crochet.
Supplies
- Yarn: #4 Worsted weight cotton (I used DROPS PARIS No 32)
- Hook: E/9 – 3.5mm
- Yarn needle for sewing in yarn ends
Size: Each bag measures approx. 18.9” (48cm) from the top of the handles to the base of the bag and they will stretch when in use. The height without straps is approx. 14.1” (36cm) and the width is approx. 12.6” (32 cm)

- Sc – single crochet
- Hdc – half double crochet Tr – treble crochet
- Sl st – slip stitch Rep – repeat
Notes :
- You are crocheting in the round
- Bag is worked from the bottom up
- If you want to make this bag taller, repeat rounds 24 and 25 alternately as you wish
- You can also add more chains for longer straps if you like

Round 45-46: Hdc in each st around, join with a sl st to the first sc of the round. (144)
Round 47: Hdc in the next 44 sts, Ch 50, skip 28 hdc, hdc in the next 44 stitches, ch 50, skip 28 hdc, sl st into the base of the handle chain.
Round 48-49: Hdc in each st around, continuous stitch sequence between the bag and handle.
Cut yarn and weave in the ends using a tapestry needle.
