So let’s get it started!

Make a chain of 20+1 CH.

ROUND 1: Insert the hook into the second stitch from it (see red arrow on pic.1.1) and work 2 SC into this loop. Place the marker into the first stitch (blue arrow on picture 1.2). Marker is the beginning of ROUND 1.

Then work 18 SC along the chain.

Crochet 3 SC into the last stitch of the chain (see pic.2). Place the second marker in the first single crochet of these three (pic. 2). The second marker is the place of the beginning of the second symmetrical half. Complete this round with 26 SC.

Total quantity of stitches – [42 STs].

From now every round is worked without turning work and without joining. That means we’ll work in spiral rounds.

ROUND 2: *INC 3, SC 18* repeat 2 times [48 STs].

It means: work 2 SC in each of the first 3 stitches (pic.3). Then crochet 18 SC along a straight line. Repeat the same starting from the 2nd marker.

Starting from the ROUND 2 work single crochets in the back loops only (BLO) – the loops further away from you. It leaves the front loops untouched and creates a beautiful pattern.

In order not to make the pattern unwieldy please keep in mind that: in ROUNDS 2-38 SC = SC in BLO.

Note! Please don’t forget to remove markers to the appropriate places in the working round. Repeat this from round to round.

ROUND 3: (INC 1, SC 1) rep. 3 times; SC 18 repeat 2 times [54 STs] Scheme of increases on pic.4.
V = INC I = SC.
I made pictures 3 and 4 on the example of a natural jute cord. This way the stitches look more expressive.

ROUND 4: *(INC 1, SC 2) rep. 3 times; SC 18* repeat 2 times [60 STs]

ROUND 5: *(INC 1, SC 3) rep. 3 times; SC 18* repeat 2 times [66 STs]

ROUND 6: *(INC 1, SC 4) rep. 3 times; SC 18* repeat 2 times [72 STs]

From now we leave 4 INC instead of 6 in each round. We will make INC in certain places (pic. 5).

ROUND 7: *SC 6, INC, SC 6, INC, SC 22 along the straight line to the 2nd marker* repeat 2 times [76 STs]

ROUND 8: *SC 6, INC, SC 8, INC, SC 6; SC 22 along the straight line* repeat 2

times [80 STs]

ROUND 9: *SC 6, INC, SC 10, INC, SC 6; SC 22 along the straight line* repeat 2

times [84 STs]

ROUND 10: *SC 6, INC, SC 12, INC, SC 6; SC 22 along the straight line* repeat 2

times [88 STs]

ROUND 11: *SC 6, INC, SC 14, INC, SC 6; SC 22 along the straight line* repeat 2

times [92 STs]

ROUND 12: *SC 6, INC, SC 16, INC, SC 6; SC 22 along the straight line* repeat 2

times [96 STs]

ROUND 13: *SC 6, INC, SC 18, INC, SC 6; SC 22 along the straight line* repeat 2

times [100 STs]

ROUND 14-19: SC 100 around [100 STs]

ROUND 20: *SC 16, DEC, SC 32* repeat 2 times [98 STs]

ROUND 21-29: SC 98 around [98 STs]

ROUND 30: *SC 16, DEC, SC 30* repeat 2 times [96 STs]

ROUND 31-37: SC 96 around [96 STs]

ROUND 38: SL ST in the BLO around (pic 6) [96 STs].

Note! I added DEC in rounds 20 and 30 to make the shape of the bag more concise / neat (egg form).

Single crochet decrease (DEC)

  1. Insert hook into the first stitch.
  2. Yarn over and draw through the loop.
  3. Do not complete the stitch as normal (pic. 7.1).
  4. Instead, insert the hook into the next stitch.
  5. Yarn over and draw through the loop.
  6. There should now be three loops on your hook.
  7. Yarn over and draw through all three loops on the hook (pic. 7.2).
  8. You should now have two single crochet stitches side-by-side, joined together into one stitch at the top.

ROUND 39:

  • *SL ST in the BLO 28
    • SC under 2 loops
    • CH 48 (the bag handle)
    • skip 18 STs along the bag top
    • SC under 2 loops*

Repeat from * to * starting from the 2nd marker.

ROUND 40:

  • *SL ST in the BLO along the bag top to the handle
    • SC 48 along the bag handle
    • skip 1 ST (for a smooth joint of the bag handle) – pic. 8.

Repeat from * to * starting from the 2nd marker.

ROUND 41:

  • *SL ST in the BLO along the bag top to the handle
    • SC 48 in each stitch of a previous round along the bag handle (pic.9)
    • skip 1 ST (for a smooth joint of the bag handle)

Repeat from * to * starting from the 2nd marker. See a short VIDEO how to do ROUND 41.

Break the rope, fasten off and hide the tail.

For this bag I added 2 jute tassels: natural color + main bag color. See photo instruction below (Step 1- Step 4).

Congratulations!!!
