Rupert The Rabbit Crochet Amigurumi Bunny Rattle Teether Ring

This adorable bunny rattle is a great baby shower or birthday gift for the little ones in your life.

Size of a finished toy is about 18 cm (7 inch) including carrots if using indicated yarn and wooden ring.

To croch t this rabbit toy you needled:

  • 100% Cotton yarn of beige, white, orange and green colours (100g – 260m / 3,53Oz – 274 yds)
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook
  • Black yarn for embroidering eyes Brown yarn for embroidering nose 7cm diameter wooden teether ring Fiberfill for stuffing
  • Rattle insert (optional) Sewing needle and scissors
  • Stitch marker (to mark first stitch of the round)
  • The height of finished toy is about 18 cm (with carrots) – size will vary if you use the different weight yarn, hook or ring size.

Abbreviations

  • st = stitch
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • inc = increase (2 single crochets in one stitch)
  • dec = invisible decrease (2 stitches together working on front loops only)
  • (..) = repeat between () number of times indicated
  • [..] = total number of stitches in the round or row

Crochet in continuous rounds. Do not join, slip stitch or turn unless otherwise stated in the pattern.

Head:

Work in rounds. Use beige yarn.

  • 1 – sc 6 in magic ring [6]
  • 2 – (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
  • 3 – (sc 1, inc) repeat 6 times [18]
  • 4 – (sc 1, inc, sc 1) repeat 6 times [24]
  • 5 – (sc 3, inc) repeat 6 times [30]
  • 6 – (sc 2, inc, sc 2) repeat 6 times [36]
  • 7 – (sc 5, inc) repeat 6 times [42] 8 – 13 – sc 42 [42]
  • 14 – (sc 5, dec) repeat 6 times [36]
  • 15 – (sc 2, dec, sc 2) repeat 6 times [30]
  • 16 – (sc 3, dec) repeat 6 times [24]
  • 17 – (sc 1, dec, sc 1) repeat 6 times [18]

Stuff half of the head and insert the rattle box.

  • 18 – (sc 1, dec) repeat 6 times [12] Finish stuffing the head.
  • 19 – (dec) repeat 6 times [6]

Fasten off and leave long thread for sewing.

Ears (mak 2):

Work in rounds. Use beige yarn.

  • 1 – sc 6 in magic ring [6]
  • 2 – (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
  • 3 – (sc 1, inc) repeat 6 times [18] 4 – 7 – sc 18 [18]
  • 8 – sc 8, dec, sc 8 [17]
  • 9 – sc 15, dec [16]
  • 10 – sc 7, dec, sc 7 [15] 11 – sc 13, dec [14]
  • 12 – 15 – sc 14 [14]
  • 16 – Flatten the ear and crochet through both sides of the ear: sc 7 [7]

Fasten off and leave long thread for sewing.

Assemble the ears:

  1. Embroider fur details on the ear using white yarn as shown in pictures.
  2. Fold the ear lenghtwise and sew bottom together.

Assemble the head:

  1. Attach ears to the top of the head. Ears should be placed on round 3.
  2. Embroider nose using brown yarn. It should look like letter T. Top of the nose should be between rounds 12 and 13.
  3. Embroider fur details above the nose up to the round 5 of the head. Use white yarn.
  4. Embroider eyes using black yarn. Eyes should appear on round 11 one stitch away from the nose.

Upper body:

Work in rows. Use beige yarn.
Start with foundation chain. Note that you may need to increase or decrease the number of stiches to match your wooden ring. Foundation chain should ‘hug’ wooden ring completely.

  • 1 – ch 10 [10]
  • 2 – Start in second chain from the hook: sc 9, ch 1 and turn [9]
  • 3 – 19 – sc 9, ch 1 and turn [9]
  • 20 – sc 9 [9]

Fasten off. Leave long thread for sewing.

Choose your rabbit: cottontail or carrot lover

Cottontail:

Tiny tail. Work in rounds. Use white yarn.

  • 1 – sc 6 in magic ring [6]
  • 2 – (inc) repeat 6 �mes [12]
  • 3 – 4 – sc 12 [12]

Stuff the tail.

  • 5 – (dec) repeat 6 times

Lower body. Work in rows. Use beige yarn.
Start with foundation chain. Note that you may need to increase or decrease the number of stitches to match your wooden ring.
Foundation chain should ‘hug’ wooden ring completely.

  • 1 – ch 10 [10]
  • 2 – Start in second chain from the hook: sc 9, ch 1 and turn [9]
  • 3 – 5 – sc 9, ch 1 and turn [9]
  • 6 – sc 9 [9]

Fasten off and leave a long thread for sewing.

Assemble:

Attach the any tail to the centre of lower body part

Carrot Lover:

Carrots (make 3). Work in rounds.
Use orange yarn.

  • 1 – sc 4 in magic ring [4]
  • 2 – (sc 1, inc) repeat 2 times [6]
  • 3 – sc 5, inc [7]
  • 4 – sc 3, inc, sc 3 [8]
  • 5 – sc 7, inc [9]
  • 6 – sc 4, inc, sc 4 [10]
  • 7 – sc 9, inc [11]
  • 8 – sc 5, inc, sc 5 [12]

Stuff the carrot.

  • 9 – (dec) repeat 6 times [6]

Fasten off and leave a long thread for sewing.
Stems (make 3). Work in rows. Use green yarn.
Start with foundation chain. Note that you may need to increase or decrease the number of stitches to match your wooden ring.
Foundation chain should ‘hug’ wooden ring completely.

  • 1 – ch 10 [10]
  • 2 – start in second chain from the hook: sc 9 [9]

Fasten off and leave a long thread for sewing.

Assemble:

  1. Embroider carrot details using black yarn.
  2. Sew the carrot to the center of a stem part.

Assemble the rattle:

  1. Sew the upper body part around the wooden ring.
  2. Attach the head firmly to the centre of upper body part.

Sew the lower body part around the wooden ring.

If you make carrot lover:

Sew the stems around the wooden ring.
