Knitting Pattern Modern Sweater Cropped Roll Free Tutorial

Comfortable, fashionable, simple to style, cropped fit sweater with a roll neck. Inspired by retro 80s/90s fashion, yet nonetheless current using basic stitches, shaping, pick-up and knit. Work it fast and wear it with your preferred jeans (or sweatpants!). Uses 10.0mm 24″ circular needles and weight 6 yarn; replace as necessary to get gauge.

Notes:

The front, back, and sleeves are knitted flat and then stitched together. The neck is knitted in the round. Sizes are shown on pattern as S (M, L).

If needed, blocking your finished garment may help smooth imperfections, loosen stitches + obtain final measurements.

FRONT + BACK

follow instructions twice to make front and back cast on 46 (50, 54)

Row 1: [k1, p1] (rib stitch)

Rows 2 – 47 (53, 59): starting with a knit row, work in stockinette stitch cast off

SLEEVES

follow instructions twice to make sleeves cast on 32 (34, 36)

Rows 1 – 12: starting with a knit row, work in stockinette stitch

Row 13: (decrease stitches) k2tog, k28 (30, 32), k2tog (30 (32, 34) stitches) Rows 14 – 18: starting with a purl row, work in stockinette stitch

Row 19: (decrease stitches) k2tog, k26 (28, 30), k2tog (28 (30, 32) stitches) Rows 20 – 24: starting with a purl row, work in stockinette stitch

Row 25: (decrease stitches) k2tog, k24 (26, 28), k2tog (26 (28, 30) stitches) Rows 26 – 30: starting with a purl row, work in stockinette stitch

Row 31: (decrease stitches) k2tog, k22 (24, 26), k2tog (24 (26, 28) stitches) Rows 32 – 36: starting with a purl row, work in stockinette stitch

NECK

Place front and back of sweater together with right sides facing up. Using a darning needle, long piece of yarn, and the mattress stitch technique, stitch shoulder seams together leaving a 10” opening for the neck.

Starting at the shoulder seam on the right facing you, pick up stitches (insert needle in stitch, wrap yarn around and pull through) along the neckline using 10.0 mm 24” circular needles. Approximately 44 stitches.

Knit in the round.

Rounds 1-9: knit (stockinette stitch) cast off

FINISH

Continuing with right sides facing up, line sleeves up with stitched up shoulder seams and stitch together using the mattress stitch technique.

Finish by stitching together the sleeve seams and side seams using the mattress stitch technique. Weave in ends.
