OVERVIEW:
- The sweater is worked in 5 pieces: Back piece, 2 Front pieces and 2 sleeves
- Each piece is worked back and forth in rows beginning at lower edge.
- The neckbands are knitted separately and then sewn to the front and back panels of the cardigan.

COLOR GUIDE

MATERIALS AND TOOLS:
- Jeans Plus of Yarn Art, each ball of yarn is 100g.
- If you use one color, you need: 8 (8, 9, 9, 10, 10) balls.
- If you mix two colors, you need 5 (5, 6, 6, 7, 7) balls of color number 87 and 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5) balls of color number 05.
Note: You could choose another yarn brands, make sure that the yarn weight is Aran, about 160m/100g.
- 5 two-centimeters-in-diameter black buttons
- Size 3.5mm (length: 70cm or 80 cm) circular knitting needles
- Size 4mm (length: 70cm or 80cm) circular needles or size to obtain gauge

Row 1 (WS): Knit all sts
Row 2: **P1, K1b; repeat from ** to end of row

A QUICK GUIDE TO THE KNTTING STITCHES USED IN THIS PATTERN:
- Knit 1 in the stitch below (K1b): Insert right-hand needle into the stitch directly below the next stitch then wrap and knit a stitch.

- Increase (inc): Insert the left-hand needle under the running thread from front to back; knit the strand through the back with right-hand needle
- Mattress stitch: Beginning from the bottom row of one piece, thread the needle through two stitches on the opposite piece.
- Picking up stitches: With the RS facing, insert the needle into the first stitch; wrap the yarn through the needle and pull a loop through. Continue with all sts.

BACK PANEL (in yarn No.05):
With 3.5mm circular needles, cast on 94 (100, 106, 112, 122, 132) sts.
Row 1 (WS): **K1, P1; repeat from ** to end of row
Row 2: **K1, P1; repeat from ** to end of row
Repeat Row 1 and Row 2 until piece measures about 2” (4½cm) from beginning, end with a RS row as the last row you work.
Change to 4mm needles.
Row 3 (WS): Knit in all sts
Row 4: **K1b, P1; repeat from ** to end of row.
Repeat Shaker’s Rib (Row 3 and Row 4) until work from beginning is 12½ (13, 13½, 14, 14½, 15)” [32 (33, 34, 35, 36, 38) cm], end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Shape armholes:
Row 5 (RS): Cast off 2 sts at the beginning of row, Shaker’s Rib to end of row
Row 6: Cast off 2 sts at the beginning of row, K to end of row
Repeat Row 5 and Row 6 once more. There are 86 (92, 98, 104, 114, 124) sts remaining.
Repeat Shaker’s Rib (Row 3 and Row 4) until work from beginning is 20 (21, 21½, 22, 22½, 23½)” [51 (53, 55, 56, 58, 60) cm], end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Shape shoulder and neck:
Count 39 (42, 45, 47, 52, 56) sts from one side, place a marker, count next 8 (8, 8, 10, 10, 12) sts and place a
second marker. There are 39 (42, 45, 47, 52, 56) sts to the other side.
Row 7 (RS): Shaker’s Rib to first marker for right shoulder. Remove marker, join the 2nd ball of yarn and bind off 8 (8, 8, 10, 10, 12) sts; removing the 2nd marker for back neck. Shaker’s Rib to end of row for left shoulder.
You will now work on both shoulders AT THE SAME TIME with two separated balls of yarn.
Row 8: On left shoulder, K1 in all sts. On right shoulder, cast off first 3 (4, 4, 4, 5, 5) sts, K1 in remaining sts.

NECKBANDS:
You need to knit the neckband a bit more tightly than usual.
NECKBAND FOR RIGHT FRONT AND BACK PANEL (in yarn color No. 87)
With 3.5mm needles, cast on 11 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Slip first st knitwise, **K1, P1; repeat from ** to end of row
Row 2: **K1, P1; repeat from ** to last st, P1

Repeat last 2 rows until work from beginning is about 1” (2cm). Make a horizontal buttonhole:
Row 3 (RS): Slip first st knitwise, **K1, P1, K1; cast off next 2 sts, work in pattern to end of row.
Row 4: Work in pattern in first 5 sts, cast on 2 sts, work in pattern to last st, P1

NECKBAND FOR LEFT FRONT PANEL (in yarn color No. 05)
With 3.5mm needles, cast on 11 sts.
Row 1 (RS): **P1, K1; repeat from ** to last st, slip last st knitwise
Row 2: Purl first st; **P1, K1; repeat from ** to end of row
Repeat last 2 rows until work from beginning is about 21½ (22, 23, 24, 25, 26)” [54 (56, 58, 61, 63, 66) cm]. Lay to left front panel on a flat surface, then put the neckband along the edge of the panel to make sure that their lengths are matched with each other. Cast of all sts, wave in ends.
FINISHING:
Block pieces.
Sew shoulder seams with mattress stitch. Sew tops of Sleeves into armholes. Sew side and Sleeve seams.
Sew the neckband for the front left panel to the left panel with mattress stitch. Sew the remaining neckband to right front and back panels. Sew the two neckbands together. Wave in ends.
Sew the buttons to the neckband of left front panel, each one is 3 (3, 3, 3, 3½, 3½)” [7.5 (8, 8, 8, 8.5, 9) cm] apart from another.
Your Cardigan is finished!
