Crochet Pattern Toffee Shop Vest

The vest is worked from bottom up in the round and flat. You begin with the ribbing, sew it together and
then start the body. The body is worked until it reaches under the arms and the split into a back section
and two front sections.

You’ll seam these together at the shoulders and then add ribbing around aroholes
and neckline.
Turning chains do not count as stitches. Stitch count can be found in parentheses later in this guide.

  • The vest in the pictures is in size XXS.
  • This pattern is written using US terminology

Starting the pattern

I recommend that you read through the pattern to get an overall picture on what you will be doing. The
pattern is made in one piece and then split in to a front section and a back section.
Start by checking your gauge. Begin with the 4.0 mm / G-6 hook size (if you know from the beginning
that you crochet tight, you can start with a larger hook) and chain 23. Make a SC in the third chain from
the hook. Ch 1. Skip next chain. *SC, Ch 1, skip next chain* repeat across row ending with a SC. Chain
2. Turn. Continue with Granite stitch across row. Chain 2. Turn. Make rows of granite stitch until your
gauge swatch is 10 cm / 4” and you are ready to check your gauge.

SIZE GUIDE

Note! The measurements below are the measurements of the final garment size. Your own measurements
should be around 5 cm / 2” smaller (positive ease).

Ribbing

Leave a tail for sewing (20 cm / 8”). Chain 11
  • Row 1: SC in second chain from the hook. SC in every
stitch across. Ch 1. Turn. (10 sts)
  • Row 2: SC-BLO across row. Ch 1. Turn. (10 sts)
  • Row 3- Repeat row 2 until ribbing measures (75, 85, 95,
    105, 115, 125, 135 cm / 29.5”, 33.5”, 37.4”, 41.3”,
45.3”, 49.2”, 53.1”) in length. Do not fasten off.
Sew the short side of the ribbing with the tail you
left before the chains. Turn the ribbing sideways to
be able to space out SC around the ribbing.

Body

  • Round 1: Space out (142, 160, 180, 200, 218, 238, 256)
SC as evenly as possible around the ribbing.
Join with a sl st in the first SC of the round.
    Ch 1. Turn. (142, 160, 180, 200, 218, 238, 256
    sts)
  • Round 2: *SC, Ch 1, skip next stitch* repeat around
ending with a SC. Join with a sl st in the first
SC of the round. Ch 2. Turn. (142, 160, 180,
    200, 218, 238, 256 sts)
  • Round 3: Granite stitch around. Join with a sl st in the
first SC of the round. Chain 2. Turn. (142, 160,
    180, 200, 218, 238, 256 sts)
  • Round 4- Repeat round 3 until the body measures (29,
    29, 30, 30, 30, 30, 29 cm / 11.4″, 11.4″, 11.8″,
    11.8″, 11.8″, 11.8″, 11.4”) in height (including
the ribbing). Do not fasten off. You will now
split the piece into a front and a back section.

Spacing out the stitches

How to space out the stitches
depends on how many ribs you
have in your ribbing when you
have reached your length. Count
how many in between spaces you
have. You should then put at least
one SC in each space.

Vest length

The vest is designed to be a bit
shorter. If you want a longer vest it
is easily accomplished by
repeating round 4 for more rounds
before you split to front and back
pieces.

Back section of the vest

The vest will now be split into a front and back
section which are worked flat.
Granite stitch count (Remember that the number of
granite stitches is half of what is in
the parentheses)
  • Row 1: Continue from the last round of the
    body. (3, 3, 5, 8, 10, 13, 13) sl st. Put a
    stitch marker in the (65, 74, 80, 84, 89,
93, 102 st) from your sl sts. GS until you
reach the stitch marker, final st should
be placed in the st with the marker. Ch
    2. Turn. (65, 74, 80, 84, 89, 93, 102 sts)
  • Row 2: GS across the row. Ch 2. Turn. (65, 74,
    80, 84, 89, 93, 102 sts)
  • Row 3 – Repeat row 2 until the back section
    (including body and ribbing) measures
    (51, 51, 53, 55, 56, 59, 61 cm / 20.1”,
    20.1”, 20.9”, 21.7”, 22”, 23.2”, 24”).
    Fasten off.

Shoulder – front (pictures on next page)

This will be repeated twice. Put a stitch marker at
the (37, 41, 47, 55, 61, 69, 73) stitch from the back
section on both sides. You should have (3, 4, 6, 6, 7,
7, 8 sts) in the middle between the markers.
  • Row 1: Begin (6, 6, 10, 16, 20, 26, 26) sts from
the back section. Attach your yarn with
a slip knot, ch 1. GS until you reach the
stitch marker, final should be placed in
the st with the marker. Chain 2. Turn.
    (31, 35, 37, 39, 41, 43, 47 sts)
  • Row 2: Decrease row : Crochet 2 granite
    stitches together (2tog). Granite stitch
    across. Chain 2. Turn. (Decreases
    stitch count by 2)
    (Written and video instructions
available on how to granite stitch 2
    together, see next page).
  • Row 3: Granite stitch across. Chain 2. Turn.
Row 4*- Repeat row 3 until the shoulder section
is as high as the back section adding
decrease rows on the rows as
according to below table. Fasten off,
leaving a tail for sewing the shoulders
    together. Repeat for second shoulder.
    (13, 15, 15, 17, 17, 19, 19 sts)
V-depth ( The vest is designed to have a
deep V, this can easily be modified
if you want. If you do not want it as
deep as the vest in the picture,
then make a few rows in the same
way as the back section on the
front before you start to follow
these instructions for front.)
Sew the shoulders together. If you modify the V-depth
you might not have this
many rows and need to
decrease more often.

Granite stitch 2 together ( means that you insert your hook in
the spaces between stitches and
pull up a loop (2 loops on hook).
Go to next space and insert your
hook, yarn over and pull up a loop.
Yarn over and pull through all 3
loops on the hook.
(Video instructions on YouTube)
