Materials:

  • approx. 520/ 640 yds of worsted weight yarn or bulky weight yarn.
  • worsted weight yarn, as 24/7 Cotton -Lion brand, with Size US G/6 (4mm) crochet hook
  • bulky weight yarn, as Bernat Maker Fashion, with Size K10.5-6.5mm crochet hook.

Finished size– using the same pattern and different yarn you can obtain different sizes:

If you use a bulky weight yarn

  • the small/ large size: height (vertically when flat): 14”/ 17”, width 17”/20”

If you use a worsted weight yarn

  • the small/ large size: height( vertically when flat): 11.5”/ 13.5” , width 14”/ 17”

So let’s get started!

Step 1: Body or Rectangle Netting part

  • is worked back and forth, turning the work after each row.

For Small size work pattern as written. Counts in brackets [] are for Large size Chain 99 [125].

R1: SC in 2nd ch from hook, SC in each of next 4[6] chains, * chain 5[7], skip 3[4]chs, SC in next ch* x 22 times, SC in each of latest 5[7]chs. Turn.

< 32[36] SC, 22 Chain-spaces of 5[7]chs>.

  • the 5[7] SC at the beginning and at the end of each R form the gathered section, the edge.

R2: Ch1 and BLSC in the same st as Ch1, BLSC in each of next 4[6]st, * ch5[7], SC around the next chain-space* x 22 times, BLSC in each of the last 5[ 7]st .

R3-34(24): repeat R2.

Do not cut yarn. Continue with R35[ 25]

Note: The large bag has fewer repetitions because it has bigger meshes.

The 24 repetitions of the large bag give a larger surface than the 34 repetitions of the smaller bag.

R35 [25]– see blue arrows: repeat R2, but at the end of the R35[25], work 3 SC on the last st,and continue by working on the top of the edge:

1SC in first R, *skip next R, SC in next R*, repeat from *-*, for a total of 18 [13] SC, on the top of the edge. Turn

R36[26]– see the red arrows: Ch1, SC in each st on the top and on the side of the edge, *ch3[4], SC around the next ch space* x 22 times, SC in next 4[6] SC (along the side of the second edge), 3SC in the corner,continue by working on the top of the edge:

1SC in first R, *skip next R, SC in next R*, repeat from *-*, for a total of 18 [13] SC, on the top of the edge.Turn.

R37[27] – see the green arrow: will be worked only on the top of the second edge Ch1, SC in each st on the top of the second edge < 18 [13] SC>

Do not cut yarn, continue with < Handle> instructions.

Step 2: from now, work in rounds around all 4 edges, to cinch and create the bag and the handles

R1– Begin from right side along one side of piece (follow the numbers and colors on the picture):

1 – ch1, work 1 SC in each of the 5[7]SC along the first edge,

2 – continue with 2 SC around each ch-space, for a total of 44 SC

3 – work 1 SC in each of the 5[7]SC along the second edge

4 – work a chain stitch row of 40[50]ch for handle and make a Sl St in first SC on the other side of the same edge.

-Adjust if you want a shorter or longer handle adjust but note that the handle will stretch when it is used.

5 – work 1 SC in each of the 5[7]SC along the second edge,

6– work 2 SC around each ch-space, for a total of 44 SC

7 – work 1 SC in each of the 5[7]SC along the first edge

8 – work a chain stitch row of 40[50]sts for the handle and fasten this row with Sl St in first ch1 of the row

Continue to cinch in each of next R to create the bag and the handles.

R2: ch1, SC in next 17 sts, SC2tog x 10[12] times, SC in next 17 sts SC in each 40[50]chains from the handle
