Baby Summer Dress is a fashionable cute design, perfect for any occasion and everyday use. It can be worn over a short/long sleeve body. This beginner friendly design is perfect for every season of the year. The sample is made of cotton yarn, you can also use wool blend yarn for other seasons.
The pattern is in eight different size: 0-3 months / 3-6 months / 6-12 months / 1-2 years / 3-4 years / 5-6 years / 7-8 years / 9-10 years.
Materials used
Yarn : Cotton, bamboo or other baby safe yarn in Size 3/DK/Light worsted.
You will need around 260/315/400/465/550/640/750/820 yards or 240/290/370/430/510/590/690/750 m yarn for the dress and belt.
If you work the belt in the second color 40/45/60/65/75/90/100/110 yards or 40/45/55/60/70/85/95/100 m of the yarn should be in the second color.
Crochet hook : Size E / 3,5 mm. If it is bigger size than you prefer you can size down your hook, if it is too small than you can size up your hook.
Gauge: 18 stitches x 8 rows per 4”/10cm square in double crochet stitches.

Stitches used :
- Chain stitch, Slip stitch,
- Single crochet (UK double crochet),

Stitch Instructions :
- When there is a number following the stitch, it means you work stitches over that number. For example double crochet 4 means 1 double crochet in each of next 4 stitches.
- Where you see brackets [ ] in the pattern, it means that you work every thing in it as a set.
For example if you see [double crochet 3, chain 1] repeat 2 times, it means double crochet 3, chain 1, double crochet 3, chain 1.

- Directions are for size 0-3 months, changes in the numbers for other size are written in colors.
- The dress is worked over the belt.
Upwards to make front panel-straps and downwards to make skirt.
- You will find tables showing numbers of rows and stitches needed by size to guide through your project.
- Chain stitches at the beginning of the rows/rounds don’t count as a single/double crochet stitch.
Dress Belt Row 1 – Work in the main or second color
- Loosely make 166 (186/ 206/ 226/ 246/ 266 / 286/ 306) chain stitches, start crocheting into 2nd chain stitch from the hook, single crochet into chain stitches through the row.
Quick tips: I like to work over the yarn tail on last couple stitches for quick weaving in.

Dress Belt Row 2 – Row 5 for size 0-3 months, 3-6 months four rows
Dress Belt Row 2 – Row 6 for size 6-12 months, 1-2 years, 3-4 years five rows

- Turn, chain 1, single crochet 1 into first stitch, skip 1 stitch, single crochet until last 2 stitches, skip 1 stitch, single crochet 1 into last stitch.
Repeat the pattern through each row. Fasten off after last row, weave in yarn end.
Marking skirt and front panel positions on the belt
- Mark front center of the belt.
- Mark 33rd (36th/ 39th/ 42nd/ 45th/ 48th/ 51st/ 54th) stitches on each side of center stitch of last row for dress skirt.
- Mark 24 (27/30/30/33/33/36/36) stitches on the center of belt first row for front panel.

Here is how we make cluster stitches (Cluster Stitch, Cluster V Stitch).
Cluster Stitch (Two Double Crochet Cluster Stitch)
Double crochet into the stitch leaving it unfinished by keeping the last loop on the hook.
(Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, yarn over, draw yarn. Total 3 loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through last two loops on the hook. Two 2 loops left on the hook)
Work second double crochet stitch into same stitch and leave it at the same unfinished position.
(Yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, yarn over, draw yarn. Total 4 loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through last two loops on the hook. Three 3 loops left on the hook)
Yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.
Cluster V Stitch
Work cluster stitch, chain 1, one more cluster into same stitch.
Total 2 cluster stitches into same stitch.
Dress skirt – worked into marked stitches over the belt last row.
Use the main color of yarn if you have used second color for the belt.
Round 1 – Cluster Stitches
- Join yarn into marked stitch, chain 3, work first cluster V into same stitch, [skip 1 stitch, cluster V into next stitch] repeat through the marked area. Total 34 (37/ 40/ 43/ 46/ 49/ 52/ 55) cluster V stitches made.

- Join into a round by slip stitch over first cluster stitch at the beginning of the row.
Dress skirt repeated pattern
Round 2 – This will be the RIGHT side
Double crochet stitches RIGHT side will be your dress RIGHT side.
- Turn, chain 3, double crochet through the round. Please work 1 stitch into each stitch, 2 stitches into each 1 chain space. Total 136 (148/ 160/ 172/ 184/ 196/ 208/ 220) stitches.
Round 3 – Cluster Stitches – WRONG side
- Turn to WRONG side, chain 3, skip 2 stitches,[cluster V into next stitch, skip 3 stitches] repeat through the round, skip last stitch, join the round by slip stitch over first cluster stitch. Total cluster V stitches are the same (34/ 37/ 40/ 43/ 46/ 49/ 52/ 55).
Round 2 and Round 3 are repeated

Row 1 – Cluster Stitches – Work on the WRONG side
- Join yarn into marked stitch on the WRONG (inner) side, chain 3, double crochet 5, [skip 2 stitches, cluster V into next stitch] repeat 4 (5/ 6/ 6/ 7/ 7/ 8/ 8) times, skip 2 stitches, double crochet 5. Total 4 (5/ 6/ 6/ 7/ 7/ 8/ 8) cluster V stitches made on the center.
Front panel repeated pattern Row 2 – RIGHT side
- Turn, chain 3, double crochet 4, front post double crochet over next stitch, double crochet over cluster V stitches, Again work 1 stitch into each stitch, 2 stitches into each 1 chain space.
We will be working same number of double crochet stitches over cluster stitches on panel center (16/ 20/ 24/ 24/ 28/ 28/ 32/ 32).

Here is how we make front post stitch
Front post double crochet – Double crochet around the stitch in the FRONT side.
Yarn over, insert hook from the right side to left side from the front of the stitch. Yarn over and pull through.
Yarn over and pull through last two loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.

Row 3 – Cluster Stitches – WRONG side
- Turn, chain 3, double crochet 4, back post double crochet over next stitch, skip 2 stitches, [cluster V into next stitch, skip 3 stitch] repeat 4 (5/ 6/ 6/ 7/ 7/ 8/ 8) times, skip 1 stitch after last cluster V, back post double crochet over next stitch, double crochet 4. Total cluster V stitches are the same (4/ 5/ 6/ 6/ 7/ 7/ 8/ 8).

Here is how we make back post stitch
Back post double crochet – Double crochet around the stitch in the BACK side.
Yarn over, insert hook from the right side to left side from the back of the stitch. Yarn over and pull through.
Yarn over and pull through last two loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook.

Row 2 and Row 3 are repeated
- times for size 0-3 months, 3-6 months (Row 2-3, 4-5)
- times for size 6-12 months, 1-2 years (Row 2-3, 4-5, 6-7)
- times for size 3-4 years, 5-6 years (Row 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9)
- times for size 7-8 years, 9-10 years (Row 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11).
Repeat double crochet row one more time (Row 6/ 6/ 8/ 8/ 10/ 10/ 12/ 12).
Do not fasten off.
You can adjust the front panel length by adding two rows.
Continuing with dress first strap over front panel Row 7 – Row 16 for size 0-3 months 10 rows

- Turn, chain 3, double crochet 5 on each row. Leave front panel remaining stitches unworked. You can adjust the strap length as neded.

- Turn skirt inside out, fold the strap, sew on close to back center. Use the option you feel comfortable with, sewing with tapestry needle or single crochet seam.
Work the second strap in the same way.
- Join yarn over post stitch, chain 3, double crochet 5. Work same number of rows.
- Sew on the second strap.
Strap edging Row 1 – RIGHT side
- Work on the RIGHT side, join yarn into front panel, base of first row, chain 1, single crochet over side of strap, slip stitch into seamline. You can work 1 stitch over side of double crochet rows, 1 stitch into line between double crochet rows.

Strap edging Row 2 – WRONG side
- Turn to WRONG (inner) side, chain 1, [skip 1 stitch, cluster V into next stitch] repeat through the strap. Skip more than 1 stitch at the end if needed. Please make sure you work an odd number of cluster V stitches over the strap.
- Slip stitch into base of first row.

Strap edging Row 3 – RIGHT side
- Turn to RIGHT side, chain 1, [single crochet 1 into first cluster V chain space, 6 double crochet into next cluster V chain space] repeat until last cluster V. Single crochet 1 into last cluster V chain space, chain 1, slip stitch into seamline. Fasten off, secure yarn end.

- Repeat the same on the second strap. Again working on the RIGHT side, join yarn into seamline, repeat the same pattern.

Strap inner side single crochet finishing
- Work on the RIGHT side, join yarn into seamline, chain 1, single crochet over inner side of the strap. Again you can work 1 stitch over side of double crochet rows, 1 stitch into line between double crochet rows.

- Repeat [single crochet 3, skip next stitch] pattern over front panel. You can omit skipping 1 stitch if you want/if needed.
- Single crochet over inner side of next strap, finish with slip stitch into seamline at the other end. Fasten off, secure yarn ends by weaving in the wrong side.
