Use tapestry needle and sew around the arm in the wrong side. Secure the yarn end.

Sew on the second sleeve in the same way.

Mark and pin hood back center (seam line) and cardigan back center for better settling.
Sew hood over cardigan neckline in the wrong side with tapestry needle.

Sew the neckline curves as it is, it will settle when you finish.

Border over cardigan front left/right side, hood

Border Row 1 – RIGHT side

Insert hook into base of first stitch on cardigan right side, draw yarn, chain 2.
Half double crochet upwards over right side of cardigan.

You can work 1 stitch over sides of each row, 1 stitch into line between two rows.

Continue working around the hood

1 half double crochet into each stitch.

Work half double crochet downwards on cardigan left side in the same way .

Again 1 stitch over sides of each row, 1 stitch into line between two rows.

You can work 2 half double crochet over sides of last 4 rows if it is hard to work into lines between rows.

Border Row 2 – WRONG side

We will make buttonholes on this row.
On the samples buttonholes are on right side.

Normally button holes are on right side for girls, and on left sides for boys.

Mark your buttonhole positions, on the right side (or left side).

You can mark and make as many buttonholes as you like.

For crocheted buttons you can make 2 stitch space buttonholes.

On the sample below 4 button holes are marked for cardigan size 0-3 months. There are 8 half double crochet stitches between buttonholes.

Turn, chain 2, half double crochet into each stitch before and after buttonholes. Chain 2, skip 2 stitch for each button hole.

Continue to half double crochet around the hood and cardigan next side.

Border Row 3 – RIGHT side

Turn, chain 2, half double crochet over cardigan both sides and hood, including into 2 chain spaces of buttonholes.
Fasten off and secure yarn end.

Fold back the hood border if preferred.

Buttons – You can use normal buttons if you like. PLEASE SEW SAFE

You can use main color or other colors of yarn.
Chain 3, half double crochet 7 into first chain stitch.
Join into around by slip stitch over first stitch.
Fasten off, draw yarn tail to wrong side of the button.
Sew the buttons on cardigan front.

Hearts Pocket – Make 2

Join into a round by slip stitch over first stitch of the round.

Ears Round 2

Chain 2, 2 half double crochet into each stitch.

Join the round by slip stitch over first stitch of the round. Total 12 stitches.

Ears Round 3

Chain 2, [half double crochet 1, 2 half double crochet into next stitch] repeat 6 times.

Join the round by slip stitch. Total 18 stitches.

Ears Round 4

Chain 2, [half double crochet 8, 2 half double crochet into next stitch] repeat 2 times.

Join the round by slip stitch. Total 20 stitches.

One more increase round for panda ears only Panda Ears Round 5

Chain 2, [half double crochet 9, 2 half double crochet into next stitch] repeat 2 times.

Ears last three rounds

Chain 2, half double crochet through each round.
Join each round by slip stitch.

Total 20 stitches for unicorn ears, 22 stitches for panda ears.

Fasten off after last round.
Flatten ear. Whipstitch through both top side together to close.

Bend in and pull on yarn slightly for slight indent and shape.

Sew ears on cardigan hood.

Leave around 8 stitches free between two ears. ❤

Panda pom pom tail – Optional

If you don’t already have a pompom maker, draw two circles in the size you prefer.
Cut around circles and into the center, which will help winding yarn over it.

Wind yarn over as many times as you prefer.
Using tapestry needle, draw yarn through the center to tie up.

Cut and trim ends, sew on cardigan back.

Unicorn horn

Make a magic loop, chain 3, double crochet 5 into the loop. Pull yarn tail tight to close up the loop.

Single crochet 1 into side of 3 chain stitches at the beginning of the round,

Half double crochet 1 into back loop of the first stitch of the round.

Working into back loops,

[double crochet 4, 2 double crochet into next stitch back loops] repeat 7 times.

You can use a marker to mark the beginning of repeated rows.

Double crochet through into back loops in next 2 rounds (without increasing).

Half double crochet 1, single crochet 1, slip stitch 1 into back loops. Fasten off.

Fill in the horn with microfiber filling or yarn.
Do not close up, sew it between two ears.

Unicorn mane – Optional

Chain 30, start crocheting into 2^nd chain stitch from hook, [single crochet 2, 2 single crochet into next stitch] repeat until the end.
Chain 40, start crocheting into 2^nd chain stitch from hook, [single crochet 2, 2 single crochet into next stitch] repeat until the end.
Chain 50, start crocheting into 2^nd chain stitch from hook, [single crochet 2, 2 single crochet into next stitch] repeat until the end.

Fasten off. You may need to help twisting by hand.

Repeat straps as many times as you like. On the sample three different size straps are repeated 2 times. You can make straps in the same size (30,30,30 / 50,50,50 … ).

Please notice that the more straps you use the more weight there will be on the head. For babies you may not want to use too many straps.

Sew on back side of the horn.

Unicorn rose decorations – repeat as many times as you like Rose

Loosely make 28 chain stitches, start crocheting into 4^th chain stitch from the hook.
Double crochet 25.

Leaving 10”/25 cm yarn tail, fasten off.

Carry yarn to base of last stitch with tapestry needle.
Roll up the rose, sew together all layers in the base.
Sew on hood with leaf.

Leaf – make 1 or 2 for each rose

Loosely make 6 chain stitches, start crocheting into 2^nd chain stitch from hook. Single crochet 1, half double crochet 1, double crochet 1, half double crochet 1, single crochet 3 into last stitch.

Continue working into other side of chain stitches. Half double crochet 1, double crochet 1, half double crochet 1, single crochet 1,
Join by slip stitch over first single crochet stitch at the beginning.

Fasten off.

Using 1 or 2 leaves for each rose, sew around in front side of the horn.
