Materials and tools:

  1. Use the same type of yarn from which the frog was crocheted. I used Sport 5 ply cotton blend yarn (yardage 330 m / 100 g) For the hoodie – Alize Cotton Gold 152 (beige mélange)
    For the sneakers – YarnArt Jeans 51 (red) and 01 (white)
    For the backpack – Alize Cotton Gold 02 (mustard)
  2. Crochet hook 2 mm.
  3. Tapestry needle with large eye
  4. A little bit of brown yarn for embroidering button.
  5. Tailor pins.

Abbreviation used:

  • MR – magic ring; st(s) – stitch(es);
  • ch – chain;
  • sl-st – slip stitch;
  • sc – single crochet (US), double crochet (UK);
  • inc – increase (2 sts worked into the same stitch = 1 increased).
  • dec – decrease (2 stitches crocheted off together, with separate bases and a shared top);
  • dc – double crochet (US), treble crochet (UK);
  • blo – work through the back loop only;
  • (sc, in)… times – repeat instructions in parenthesis the indicated number of times.
  • Numbers in parenthesis at the end of a row or round indicate the stitch count after completion of the row or round.

Notice: the frog, backpack and sneakers are crocheted with X-shaped sc, the hoodie is crocheted with V-shaped sc.

Photo 1. If wrap the yarn under the crochet hook, we get an X-shaped sc.

Photo 2. If wrap the yarn over the crochet hook, we get a V-shaped sc.

HOODIE

I prefer to crochet hoodie with V-shaped sc, because this way it is more elastic when pulled and the hoodie made of X-shaped sc gets narrower.

With beige color crochet a chain of ch42, join the foundation chain with sl-st.

Work in rounds, begin each row with 1 ch and finish with a sl-st in the first stitch of the round.

Pin the hood to the neck.

Sew the hood to the sweatshirt. Be careful and don’t sew the hood to the frog😊

With a new beige yarn make a string of ch10, without cutting the yarn sl-st the neck and hood around, then crochet a chain of ch10 for the second string. Fasten off.

SNEAKERS

Start with white yarn.

Crochet a chain of ch6. Work around the chain.

Round 1: start from the 2-nd loop from the hook, 4 sc, 5 sc in the last loop of the chain. Continue into the unused loops on the other side of the chain: 3 sc, inc (14)

Fasten off, wave in the yarn ends.

Outsole

Crochet a chain of ch25. Make 24 sc along the chain. Leave an end long enough for sewing. Sew the outsole to the edge half loops and seam it in the back.

With white yarn make the shoelaces, lace it up and tie in a bow.

BACKPACK

With mustard yarn crochet a chain of ch10. Start from the 2-nd loop from the hook, 9 sc along the chain, ch1, turn. Make 4 turning rows total.

By single stitching crochet an edge all around making 3 sc in the corner sts. This is the base of the backpack. Without cutting yarn crochet 10 rounds in spiral – sc in every st, where the very first round work through BLO.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Using the yarn tail, sew each of four corner columns of sts with «half cross stitch», inserting a needle under the sc base. Fold the sides in half and sew them. To give shape, put the stuffing inside the bag.

Backpack flap

With mustard yarn crochet a chain of ch7. Work in turning rows.

Rnd 1: start from the 2-nd loop from the hook, 5 sc, 3 sc in the last loop of the chain, 5 sc into the unused loops on the other side of the chain, ch1, turn crocheting. (13) Rnd 2: 5 sc, 3 inc, 5 sc, ch1, turn (16)
