So let’s get started!

Make a chain of 15 + 1 CH (the last stitch is a lifting loop).

ROUND 1: Insert the hook into the second stitch from it (see red arrow on pic.1.1) and work 2 SC into this loop. Place the marker into the first stitch like on picture 1.2. Marker – is the beginning of ROUND 1.

Work 13 SC along the chain.

Crochet 3 SC into the last stitch of the chain (see pic.2). Continue this round with 13 SC.

From now every round is worked without turning work and without joining. That means we’ll work in spiral rounds.

Rounds 2-9 will be crocheted according to the classic oval pattern. I offer two options for the description: an oval scheme (pic. 3) and detailed description round by round.

Red circle – 16th CH – a place for the first marker.

Work in a spiral way without joining and without turning the project. Dotted arrows indicate the start of a new round.

+    – SC

o  – CH

V  – INC (work 2 SC into the same stitch to make an increase)

ROUND 2: *INC 3, SC 13* repeat 2 times [38 STs]

It means: work 2 SC into each of the first 3 stitches (pic.4). Then crochet 13 SC along. Repeat the same one more time.

Starting from the ROUND 2 work single crochets in the back loops only (BLO) – the loops further away from you. It leaves the front loops untouched and creates a beautiful pattern. In order not to make the pattern unwieldy please keep in mind that in ROUNDS 2-40 SC = SC in BLO.

Note! Please don’t forget to remove the marker into the first stitch of the 2nd round. Repeat this from round to round.

ROUND 3: *(INC 1, SC 1) rep. 3 times; SC

13* repeat 2 times [44 STs] Scheme of increases on pic.5.

V = INC, I = SC

ROUND 4: *(INC 1, SC 2) rep. 3 times; SC 13* repeat 2 times [50 STs]

ROUND 5: *(INC 1, SC 3) rep. 3 times; SC 13* repeat 2 times [56 STs]

ROUND 6: *(INC 1, SC 4) rep.t 3 times; SC 13* repeat 2 times [62 STs]

ROUND 7: *(INC 1, SC 5) rep.t 3 times; SC 13* repeat 2 times [68 STs]

ROUND 8: *(INC 1, SC 6) rep.t 3 times; SC 13* repeat 2 times [74 STs]

ROUND 9: *(INC 1, SC 7) rep.t 3 times; SC 13* repeat 2 times [80 STs]

The Oval bottom is finished (pic.6).

ROUND 10-13: SC 80 around [80 STs]

ROUND 14: SC 14, DEC, SC 38, DEC, SC 24 [78 STs]

ROUND 15-36: SC 78 around [78 STs]

ROUND 37: SC 14, DEC, SC 37, DEC, SC 23 [76 STs]

ROUND 38-40: SC 76 around [76 STs]

Bag “body” is ready (pic.7)

BAG HANDLES

I offer 2 types of handles to choose from: crocheted and sew-on.

Crochet handles

ROUND 1: *SC in BLO 21, SC (under 2 loops), CH 70, SC (under 2 loops) in the 17th stitch from the hook* repeat 2 times. See pic.8

To make longer/shorter handles please work more/less chain stitches in this round.

ROUND 2: *SC in BLO 21, SC 70 (the handle)* repeat 2 times. See pic.9.

ROUND 3: *SC in BLO 21, SC 70* repeat 2 times

In this round work SC along the handles in each stitch of the previous row. See red arrows on pic. 10

Break the rope, fasten off and hide the tail (pic.11).

To make the end of crochet project invisible follow video instruction INVISIBLE END.

You can also turn the bag inside out. You will get a new look with a wonderful pattern (pic. 12)

Sew-on handles

You can use any handles you like: leather, faux leather, wooden, glass, plastic etc.. I used wooden rectangular handles.

When you finish crochet bag “body” (ROUND 40, pic.7) you should work 1 round of SL ST.

ROUND 41: SL ST around under two loops [76 STs] (pic.13)

After that break the rope, fasten off and hide the tail.

To make the end of crochet project invisible follow video instruction INVISIBLE END.

Place the handles in the center and sew to the bag. I used for this purpose the same jute rope and yarn needle (a needle with a large “ear”). See pic.14 and VIDEO.

Congratulations!!!
