Crochet Sweater Please refer to the pictures for information from pattern on sizes, materials used, needle size etc. Click on the white arrow half way up the picture on the right side. Where a discontinued yarn is used, I check the needle size for a modern equivalent

Instructions given for 81 cm. (32 inch) Bust, larger sizes given in brackets. Where only one figure is given this applies to all sizes.

Use ONLY the Wendy or Peter Pan yarn specified. (We cannot accept responsibility for an imperfect garment if any other brand is used.) Follow our instructions exactly, make certain you have the right tension.

Measure (without stretching) to see you’re knitting the right number of stitches as stated.

Too many? — use larger needles. Too few? — use finer needles. Once the tension is right, the size will be right.

TENSION

14 sts. and 16 rows to 5 cm. (2 ins.) over patt on 4mm. Needles — Ascot, Shetland,Choice or Fashion, 3% mm. Needles— Courtellon.

NOTE

The needle sizes given are for Ascot, Shetland, Choice or Fashion. When using Courtellon use 3mm. Needles in place of 3a mm. and 3%mm. in place of 4 mm.

FRONT

**Using 3% mm. Needles, cast on 101 (105, 111,115) sts.

1st Row — K.2, * P.1, K.1, rept. from * to last st.,K1.

2nd Row —*K.1,P.1, rept. from * to last st., K.1. Rept. the 1st and 2nd Rows for 7.5 cm. (3 ins.)
finishing on a 2nd Row.

Next Row (Inc. Row) — Rib 2 (4, 2, 4), inc. in next st., * rib 4, inc. in next st., rept. from * to last 3 (5,
3,5) sts., ribtoend. 121 (125, 133, 137) sts. Change to4 mm. Needles.

Commence Patt.

1st Row (Wrong Side) — K.13 (15, 19, 21), P.8, *K.21, P.8, rept. from * twice more, K. to end.

2nd Row – (P.1, K.1) 6 (7, 9, 10) times, P.1, K.8,

(P.1, K.1) 10 times, P.1, K.8, rept. from * twice more, (P.1,K.1)6(7,9, 10) times, P.1.

3rd Row – As 1st Row.

4th Row — (P.1, K.1) 6 (7, 9, 10) times, P.1, C.8,

(P.1, K.1) 10 times, P.1, C.8, rept. from * twice more, (P.1,K.1)6(7,9, 10) times, P.1.

5th Row —As 1st Row.

6th Row — As 2nd Row.

These 6 rows form the patt. **

Continue in patt. until Front measures 33 (34.5,34.5, 34.5) cm. 13 (13%, 13″, 13%) ins. from commencement finishing on aright side row.

Divide for Front Opening

Next Row — Patt. 58 (60, 64, 66) sts., cast off 5 sts., patt. to end. Continue on the last set of sts. as follows:—

Shape Armhole

Keeping patt. correct.

Next Row —Cast off 5 (5, 6, 6) sts., patt. to end. Work 1 row.

Dec. 1 st. at armhole edge on the next 3 (5, 5, 7) rows, then on every following alt. row until 48 (48,50, 50) sts. remain. Work 35 rows finishing on a wrong side row.

Shape Neck

Next Row — Patt. to last 6 sts., cast off these sts. Break off yarn.

Turn, rejoinyarn.

Dec. 1 st. at neck edge on the next 11 rows, finishing atarmhole edge. 31 (31, 33, 33) sts.

Shape Shoulder

Cast off 8 (8, 9, 9) sts. at beg. of next row and 8 sts. at beg. of following 2 alt. rows.

Work 1 row. Cast off remaining 7 (7, 8, 8) sts.

With right side facing rejoin yarn to remaining sts. Work 1 row.

Shape Armhole

Keeping patt. correct.

Next Row — Cast off 5 (5, 6, 6) sts., patt. to end. Dec. 1 st. at armhole edge on the next 3 (5, 5, 7) rows, then on every following alt. row until 48 (48,50, 50) sts. remain.

Work 35 rows finishing on a wrong side row.

Shape Neck

Next Row — Cast off 6 sts., patt. to end. Continue working to correspond with other side, working 1 row more before shaping shoulder.

Back

Work as instructions given for Front from ** to **. Continue until Back measures same as Front to arm holes finishing on a wrong side row.

Shape Armholes

Keeping patt. correct.

Cast off5 (5, 6, 6) sts. atbeg. of next 2 rows.

Dec. 1 st. at each end of the needle on every row until 105 (105, 111, 111) sts., then on every following alt. row until 101 (101, 105, 105) sts. remain.

Continue without further dec. until armholes measure same as Front to shoulders finishing on awrong side row.

Shape Shoulders

Cast off 8 (8, 9, 9) sts. at beg. of next 2 rows, 8 sts. at beg. of next 4 rows, then 7 (7, 8, 8) sts. at beg.
of next 2 rows.

Cast off remaining 39 sts.

SLEEVES (Both Alike)

Using 3Vamm. Needles, caston 51 (51, 53, 53) sts.

Work 7.5cm. (3ins.) inrib as given for Front, finishing on a 2nd Row.

Next Row (Inc. Row) — Rib 4 (4, 3, 3), inc. in next st., * rib 5 (5, 4, 4), inc. in next st., rept. from * to
last4 sts., ribto end. 59 (59, 63, 63) sts.

Change to 4 mm. Needles.

Commence Patt.

1st Row (Wrong Side)-K.11(11, 13, 13), P.8, K.21,P.8,K.11(11,13,13).

2nd Row — (P.1,K.1) 5 (5, 6, 6) times, P.1,K.8, (P.1,K.1) 10times, P.1,K.8, (P.1,K.1) 5 (5, 6, 6) times, P.1.

3rd Row —As 1st Row.

4th Row — (P.1, K.1) 5 (5, 6, 6) times, P.1, C.8, (P.1,K.1) 10times, P.1,C.8, (P.1,K.1)5(5, 6, 6) times, P.1.

5th Row —As 1st Row.

6th Row —As 2nd Row.

The last 6 rows form the patt.

Work 4 rows.

Keeping patt. correct, inc. 1 st. at each end of the needle on the next and every following 6th row until 77 (77, 81, 83) sts., then on every following 8th row until 87 (87,91, 93) sts. are on the needle.

Continue without further inc. until sleeve measures 43 (43, 45.5, 45.5) cm. 17 (17, 18, 18) ins. from commencement finishing on a wrong side row.

Shape Top

Keeping patt. correct.

Cast off5 (5, 6, 6) sts. at beg. of next 2 rows.

Dec. 1 st. at each end of the needle on every row until 63 (63, 65, 67) sts., then on every following alt.
row until 39 (39, 41, 41) sts. remain.

Cast off 3 sts. at beg. of next 6 rows.

Cast off remaining 21 (21, 23, 23) sts.

PRESSING

With wrong side facing, pin out all pieces to measurements given. Press as instructions given on ball band.

MAKING UP

Collar

Using 3%amm. Needles, cast on 103 (103, 107, 107)sts.

1st Row — K.2, * P.1, K.1, rept. from * to last st.,K1.

2nd Row —K.1,*P.1,K.1, rept. from * to end. Rept. the 1stand 2nd Rows for 10cm. (4 ins.).

Cast off loosely in rib.

Left Front Band

Using 3% mm. Needles, commencing at neck, pick up and K.40 (42, 44, 46) sts. evenly down left front
opening.

1stRow-*K.1,P.1, rept. from * to end.

Rept. the 1st Row 8 times more. Cast off in rib.

Right Front Band

Using 3a mm. Needles, commencing at cast off sts., pick’up and K.40 (42, 44, 46) sts. evenly up right front opening to neck.

1stRow-*P.1,K.1, rept. from * to end.

Rept. the 1st Row 8 times more. Cast off in rib.

Join shoulder, side and sleeve seams by back stitching omitting rib, join rib by top sewing.

Pin sleeves into position, sew in by backstitching. Slip st. edges of front bands to cast off sts. at front, right band over left band.

Sew on collar by top sewing.

Press seams.
