This adorable Dragon Dog Sweater is available in five different sizes. It is available in four distinct sizes. Straight STS are employed. The crochet pattern is a written, illustrated step-by-step guide. An adorable cardigan for the ideal dog.
Materials Needed:
4 to 5 ounces of worsted weight yarn. Sizes G and I crochet hooks. Darning needle.
INTERMEDIATE
Directions are for size Extra-Small. Changes for sizes Small, Medium, Large and X-Large are in parentheses.
Size: Finished Chest Size: Finished Chest 18 (22, 27 ½”, 41, 45)”. Finished Length 11 (14, 17,23 28)”.
GAUGE: 3 sts = 1″; 15 rows = 4” in single crochet
Abbreviations:

SWEATER:
Mark this as neck edge-Row 1: With I hook and worsted weight yarn, ch 42 (48, 60, 84, 100.) Switch to size G hook. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. [41 (47, 59, 83, 99) sc made.]
Row 2: Ch 1, turn and sc in each st across.
Repeat Row 2 until piece is [1” (1 ½”, 1 ½”, 2”, 2”) from beginning.]
Next Row: Repeat row 2, but inc 3 sts evenly for a total of – 44 (50, 62, 86, 102) sts.
Body Row 1 -2: Change to size I hook and ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.
Next Rows: Ch 1, turn. Make 2 sc in 1st st for inc. Sc in each sc until last st. Make 2 sc in last st for and inc. Repeat this row for a total of 3 (5, 5, 9, 5) times. At end you will have, [50 (60, 72,104, 112) scs made.]
Undercarriage:
Row 1: Ch 1, turn and sc in each st across.
Row 2: : Ch 1, turn. Make 2 sc in 1st st for inc. Sc in each sc until last st. Make 2 sc in last st for and inc.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 for a total of 2 (4, 5, 9, 11) times – 54 (68, 82, 122, 132) sts.
Next Row: Ch 1, turn and sc in each st across.
Shape Leg Openings:
Row 1: Sc in each of the next 5 (5, 7, 11, 13) sts. Leave remaining sts unworked.

Repeat row 2 until piece is 1” (1 ½”, 1 ½”, 2 ½”, 3”) long. End off and weave in end.
Middle or Belly:
Row 1: Skip 4 (4, 6, 6, 6) sts on main piece. Attach yarn in next st. Ch 1 and sc in each of the next 36 (50, 56, 88, 94) sts,

Left Side:

Row 2: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in next 5 (5, 7, 11, 13) sts. Sc in each of the next 4 (4, 6, 6, 6) chs.
Sc in each of the next 36 (46, 56, 80, 102) sts. Sc in each of the next 4 (6, 6, 6, 6) chs. Sc in each of the last 5 (5, 7, 11, 13) sts. [54 (68, 82, 122, 132) sts made.]
Work even until piece measures 6” (7”, 8 ½”, 12”, 15”) from beginning. End off and weave in end. Place a marker each side of last row.
Shape Back
Skip 6 (7, 9, 13, 14) sts at beginning next row. Attach yarn in next st. Ch 1 and sc in each of the next 42 (54, 54, 96, 104) sts. Leave remaining sts unworked.
Decrease Rows:
Row 1: Ch 1 and turn. Sc 1st 2 st tog. Sc in each st until last 2 st. Sc last 2 sts tog.
Row 2: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in each sc across. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until piece is 11” (14”, 17”, 23”, 28” long from the top begging row.

FINISHING Sew seam from neck edge to where marked.
Finished Length 11 (14, 17, 23, 28)”.
Edging:
Join yarn at bottom seam edge, Ch 1 and sc evenly around opening. Join to first sc with sl st. End off and weave in end.

Leg Opening
Rnd 1: With right side facing and I hook, ch 1 and make approx. (24, 24, 26, 32) sc around opening. Join to first sc with sl st. Make sure you make an even amount of sts.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 and dc in each st around. Join to top of beg ch-3.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, fpdc around next dc, (bpdc around next dc, fpdc around next dc.) around. Join to top of beginning ch-3 with sl st. Repeat Rnd 3 for the last 2 larger sizes. End off and weave in end.
Dog Hat Sizes:
- Small:11” circumference
- Medium:13” circumference
- Large:15” circumference
- X-Large: 20” circumference

MAKING THE EAR HOLES:
Rnd 8: Ch 1, sc in each of the next 2 sc. Ch 12, sk 6 sc, sc in each of the next 8 (11) sts. Ch 12, sk 6 sc, sc in each of the next 8 (11) sts. Join to first sc with sl st. [2 ch-12 earholes made and 18 (24) sc made.
Rnd 9: Ch 2, counts as first hdc. Hdc in next st. Make 12 hdc over ch-12 earhole. Hdc in each of the next 8 (11) sts. Make 12 hdc over ch-12 earhole. Hdc in last 8 (11) sts. Join to top of 1st ch-2 with sl st. [42, (48) hdcs made.]
Rnd 10: Ch 2 and make bphdc around next st. (Fphdc around next st, bphdc around next st) 3 times. Ch 30 for tie. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch down. For ties attach yarn at ear center and ch 30. Sl st in each ch down and sl st back into hat. End off and weave in end. Repeat on opposite side.
Spikes for all sizes – Make enough for back of sweater and top of head.
With desired colored yarn make a magic circle or ch 3 and join to 1st ch to form ring.
