Crochet Shawl – Side Waves Free Pattern

Crochet Shawl Side Waves is a rectangle shawl constructed lengthways with a gracefully undulating lace design. Ideal for a textile that changes color or your preferred solid hue.

Why not experiment with lace weight for an ethereal sensation? The ideal summer wrap or something a little more refined

Including size adjustment instructions in the pattern is advantageous if one desires to utilize a textile of a heavier weight.

Pattern Notes:

  • Even numbered rows are right side rows, although this is not essential as the design is reversible
  • This rectangle shawl is worked lengthways starting with a long chain, you could use the foundation single crochet method if you prefer.
  • Yarn usage – almost the entire 1000 metres of yarn was used in this wrap, I had only 5g left over. As a guide to keep you on track, I used – 15g for Rows 1-4 – 15g for Rows 5-7 – 15g for Rows 9-11 – 6g for each full dc row (Rows 4, 8, 12 etc) – 16g for the 4 border rows.
  • On Row 8, when asked to work in the space before the next dc, work the dc in the space between two dc stitches rather than into the top of a stitch.
  • On Row 11, when asked to dc-2tog – work the dc and the next dc together as follows: yarn over hook, insert hook into the first dc, yarn over hook, draw through, yarn over hook, draw through 2 loop (2 loops left on hook), yarn over hook, skip (ch- 2sp, sc, ch-2sp), insert hook into next dc, yarn over hook, draw through, yarn over hook, draw through 2 loops, yarn over hook, draw through remaining 3 loops on hook.
  • To adjust the width of the wrap – work rows 5-12 as many times as you wish, the last 4 border rows can be worked either after row 8 or row 12.
  • To adjust the length of the wrap – add or remove a multiple of 12 stitches from the starting chain
