Crochet Square Bag – Crochet Tote Bag Pattern Reusable Grocery Bag, Tote Bag Crochet Pattern PDF Aesthetic Bag, Large Crochet Beach Bag.
This pattern will help you to create a crochet Square bag.
To create your project you need the following materials:
- Polyester / cotton / mixed rope 3 mm – 654 yds / (600 meters).
- Hook No. 4.5 mm.
- Scissors.
Quick reminder and abbreviations of the stitches:
- CH – chain stitch
- SC – single crochet
- SL ST – slip stitch
- ST – stitch
Approximate finished size is:
Height: 15″ (38 cm)
Width: 19″ (50 cm)
Handles length: 17-17 1/2″ (43-45 cm)
GAUGE: 4” x 4” = 11 ½ sts x 12 ¼ rows (10 x 10 cm = 11 ½ sts x 12 ¼ rows)

So let’s get it started!
Make a chain of 22+1 CH (the last 1 CH is a lifting loop).
ROW 1: Insert the hook into the second stitch from it (red arrow on pic. 1) and work 22 SC along the chain. One chain and turn
ROW 2-69: SC 22 along, one CH and turn (pic. 2). [22 STs]
ROW 70: SC 22 along. Break the rope, fasten off and hide the tail.
As a result you’ll get a rectangle:
width – 7 ½ ” (19 cm), length – 22 ½ ” (57 cm)
Or ratio: W : L = 1 : 3
Crochet one more the same rectangle.

Two more rectangles will be crocheted almost the same but with one-piece crocheted handles:
Make a chain of 22+1 CH (the last 1 CH is a lifting loop).
ROW 1: Insert the hook into the second stitch from it and work 22 SC along the chain. One chain and turn. [22 STs]
ROW 2-63: SC 22 along, one CH and turn. [22 STs]ROW 64: SC 22 along. At the end of this row don’t turn the project. Work CH 40+1 (the last 1 CH is a lifting loop) and turn (pic. 3).

ROW 65: Insert the hook into the second stitch from it and work 40 SC along the chain. Continue crocheting the row with SC 22. One CH and turn. [62 STs]
ROW 66-69: SC 62 along, one CH and turn. [62 Sts]
ROW 70: SC 62 along. Break the rope, fasten off and hide the tail Crochet one more the same detail.
STEAM or IRON BLOCKING
Blocking is a very important point when creating a crochet project. Therefore, I will describe the Blocking in a separate chapter here.
Why is Blocking necessary?
Blocking helps:
- to adjust the size and shape of the crochet item;
- to get flat corners and straight edges;
- to fix unwanted curling;
- to relax and enhance the stitches in your crochet project.
Blocked crochet items look more professional and this method improves the look and fit of your item.
How to block polyester or cotton cord?
- lay the detail on a firm, level surface;
- cover with a piece of cotton cloth;
- spray water evenly over the surface;
- iron to align corners and borders (use max temperature);
- leave in a horizontal position until completely dry. For the best results, the part can be placed under the press.
SEW DETAILS TOGETHER
Put the details side by side as shown on picture 4.

Join details in the direction of the blue arrows first (work from the center), then – red. The last seam – sew on the handles along the green line.
How to join details?
The most popular and one of the prettiest joining methods I know is Zig Zag Slip Stitch Join (see attached video tutorial ZigZag.mp4).
Don’t worry, this technique looks far more complicated than it is.
Join details with a SL ST from right side to wrong side. Always insert the hook in the hole between the last SC and the working edge of rectangles (details) as shown on pic. 5.
Work SL ST over the join (red arrows on pic. 5).
Slip stitch into the corresponding detail from right side to wrong side. Work SL ST over the join.

This will continue until you have joined all the seams (see pic. 5).
CUSTOMIZED BAG SIZE
You can always adjust the bag size and the handles length. Just be in ratio for rectangles: W : L = 1 : 3
To make handles longer/shorter: work more/less CH in the handles starting chain.
Congratulations!!!
You’ve just finished your Square bag!
I do hope it was easy for you to make such a crochet square bag with these instructions.
