F/o, weave in ends. When you’ve made both of
the granny square bases, line them up so that
the last rounds are touching. Find the middle of
the panels, and then, with white yarn, sl st into
the middle of one of the bases. Ch (12, 13, 14,
15), and sl st into the middle of the opposite
panel to join the two together. F/o. Using your
tapestry needle, take a long strand of white yarn
and weave both of the edges of each base
together. Stop when you reach the corners of
the bases. Do this twice, once on each side.
You should now have the short base complete,
with two holes for the legs and a wider opening
for the waist band.

Short legs (make 2)
Note: the short legs are worked in rounds directly
onto the leg holes, and the ch that connects them.
When you reach the portion of the short-leg that
has the chain connection, only work into one loop
of the chain, since a loop will be needed for
making each leg.
Round 1: With white yarn, on either leg hole, sl st
into one of the ch-1 spaces. Ch 3 (counts as first
dc), dc again into the same ch-1 space. *Ch 1, dc
twice in the next ch-1 space from hook (or skip 2
ch and dc twice in 3rd ch from hook when you
reach the chain-connection portion). Repeat from *
around, ending with a ch-1 and sl st into your first
dc.
Round 2: turn, sl st into the next dc, sl st into the
next ch-1 space, in this space: ch 3 (counts as first
dc), then dc again into this same ch-1 space. *Ch
1, dc twice in the next ch-1 space from hook.
Repeat from * around, ending with a ch 1 and sl st into your first dc.
Rounds 3-6: repeat round 2.
When finished, f/o and weave in ends.
Waist Band (make 1)
Round 1: with the orange yarn, sl st into the
edge of the short base (the side opposite the
short legs). Ch 3 (counts as first dc), then, doing
your best to estimate where the stitches should
go – dc around the entire edge of the short
base, ending with a sl st into your first dc.
Round 2-3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next
st from hook and in each st around, ending with
a sl st into your first dc.
Rounds 4-6: with teal yarn, ch 3 (counts as first
dc), dc in next st from hook and in each around,
ending with a sl st into your first dc.
F/o, weave in ends.
Waist Tie (make 1)
Ch (200, 250, 325, 425). F/o, weave in ends.
Weave this in and out of the 5th round of the waist
band, making sure to center it so that both ends
are at the front of the shorts. Pull tightly and tie to
wear.
Enjoy
