Baby Romper Crochet Pattern is cute and perfect for everyday use. It is seamless & fun to make. Purchase one pattern and crochet as many as you wish for the ones you love.

The pattern is in four size : Size 0-3 months / 3-6 months / 6-12 months / 1-2 years. Skill level of the pattern is easy, requires some experience.

Materials used

Yarn: Cotton, bamboo or other baby safe yarn in Size 3/DK/Light worsted.

Around 270/300/350/410 yards or 250/275/320/440 m yarn is needed.

Crochet hook : Size E / 3,5 mm

Gauge: 17 stitches x 8 rows per 4”/10cm square in double crochet stitches If it is bigger size than you prefer you can size down your hook, if it is too small than you can size up your hook.

Stitches used :

  • Chain stitch, Slip stitch, Single crochet (UK double crochet),Half double crochet (UK half treble crochet), Double crochet (UK treble crochet), Double crochet decrease (double crochet together).

Stitch Instructions :

  • When there is a number following the stitch, it means you work stitches over that number. For example double crochet 4 means 1 double crochet in each of next 4 stitches.
  • Where you see brackets [ ] in the pattern, it means that you work every thing in it as a set. For example if you see [double crochet 3, chain 1] repeat 2 times, it means double crochet 3, chain 1, double crochet 3, chain 1.

  • Directions are for size 0-3 months & changes in the numbers for size 3-6 months / 6-12 months / 1-2 years are written in colors.
  • The romper is worked in one piece from neckline to down.
  • The yoke has buttons at the back. There are buttons also on rear diaper cover for easy changes.
  • Chain stitches at the beginning of the rows/rounds don’t count as a double crochet stitch.

Row 1

  • Loosely make 63 (68/ 73/ 78) chain stitches. Start crocheting into 4th chain stitch from the hook.
  • [Double crochet 4, 2 double crochet into next stitch] repeat through the row (repeat 12/13/14/15 times). Total 72 (78/ 84/ 90) stitches.

Row 2

  • Turn, chain 3, [double crochet 5, 2 double crochet into next stitch] repeat through the row. Total 84 (91/ 98/ 105) stitches.

Row 3

  • Turn, chain 3, [double crochet 6, 2 double crochet into next stitch] repeat through the row. Total 96 (104/ 112/ 120) stitches.

Row 4

  • Turn, chain 3, [double crochet 7, 2 double crochet into next stitch] repeat through the row. Total 108 (117/ 126/ 135) stitches.

Separating arm holes

  • Mark 15th and 40th stitch from both ends for size 0-3 months. ❤

Turn, chain 3, double crochet 14 (15/ 17/ 18) on romper back (until marked stitch), chain 7 (7/ 8/ 8) for underarm.

Fold the armhole space and skip to romper front,double crochet 28 (31/ 32/ 35) between markers on romper front, chain 7 (7/ 8/ 8) for underarm.

Fold the next armhole space and skip to romper back, double crochet into last 14 (15/ 17/ 18) on romper back. Total 70 ( 75+1() / 82 / 87+1() ) stitches. (*) Please increase 1 stitch on 3-6 months, 1-2 years by working 2 double crochet into last stitch.

Join into a round by slip stitch over first double crochet stitch of the row. From now we need to join each round by slip stitch over first stitch of the round. ❤

Romper body

  • Round 1 – Round 10 for size 0-3 months ten rounds
  • Round 1 – Round 11 for size 3-6 months eleven rounds
  • Round 1 – Round 13 for size 6-12 months thirteen rounds
  • Round 1 – Round 14 for size 1-2 years fourteen rounds

Chain 3, double crochet through each round, including chain stitches on first round. Total stitches are the same (70/76/82/88). Romper bottom will add around 5” / 12 cm. You can adjust the length at this point.

Every 2 rounds you add will increase the length approximately 1” / 2 cm. ❤

We will be increasing in next four rounds on the romper back only. ❤

  • Round 11 – Round 14 for size 0-3 months four rounds
  • Round 12 – Round 15 for size 3-6 months four rounds
  • Round 14 – Round 17 for size 6-12 months four rounds
  • Round 15 – Round 18 for size 1-2 years four rounds

1st increase round Chain 3, double crochet 7 (8/ 9/ 10), 2 double crochet into each of next two stitches, double crochet 52 (56/ 60/ 64), 2 double crochet into each of next two stitches, double crochet 7 (8/ 9/ 10). Total 74 (80/86/92) stitches.

Please look at the table below to see the numbers of stitches in four increase rounds. Fasten off after last round. ❤

Romper lower part

Mark 13th stitches from both sides of joining line for back (total 26 stitches for size 0-3m),

Mark 32nd stitches from both sides of joining line for front (total 24 stitches for size 0-3m)

  • Romper BACK Row 1 – Row 6 for size 0-3 months & 3-6 months six rows
  • Romper BACK Row 1 – Row 7 for size 6-12 months & 1-2 years seven rows

Join yarn into marked stitch on romper back, chain 3, start crocheting into same stitch.
2 double crochet together over first 2 stitches, double crochet until last 2 stitches, 2 double crochet together over last 2 stitches.

Turn, chain 3 after each row, total 6 (6/7/7) rows worked. Fasten off after last row.❤

  • Romper FRONT Row 1 – Row 5 for size 0-3 months & 3-6 months five rows
  • Romper FRONT Row 1 – Row 6 for size 6-12 months & 1-2 years six rows

Join yarn into marked stitch on romper front, chain 3, start crocheting into same stitch. 2 double crochet together over first 2 stitches, double crochet until last 2 stitches, 2 double crochet together over last 2 stitches.

Turn, chain 3 after each row, total 5 (5/6/6) rows worked.

  • Do not fasten off after last row for size 0-3 months & 3-6 months.
  • Fasten off after last row and join yarn to romper front left side edge for size 6-12 months & 1-2 years and continue with same finishing directions. ❤

Romper bottom finishing

Working on the RIGHT side, turn sideways, chain 1, and single crochet around the leg opening as follows. Evenly work 43 (43/49/49) single crochet stitches around the leg opening.

Starting from front edge, you can work 1 single crochet into line between rows & beginning-ending, 1 single crochet on side of each row,1 single crochet into each stitch on upper part (skipped stitches for leg opening).

Single crochet 14 (16/16/18) over romper back bottom.

Join by slip stitch over first single crochet stitch. ❤

Border around leg opening

We will work shell stitch border over leg opening on the RIGHT side. Chain 1, start crocheting into same stitch of chain stitch. [Single crochet 1, skip 2 stitches, 6 double crochet into next stitch, skip 2 stitches] repeat 7 (7/ 8/ 8) times. Single crochet 1 into last stitch. Total 7 (7/ 8/ 8) shell stitches made.

Once again single crochet into each stitch on romper back bottom (14/16/16/18).
Skip to second leg opening and repeat the same shell stitch border pattern.

Make 2 buttonholes on romper front bottom

There are 14 (16/16/18) stitches on romper front bottom.

Chain 1, half crochet 3 (4/ 4/ 4) before first buttonhole, chain 2, skip 2 stitches,half double crochet 4 (4/ 4/ 6) between buttonholes, chain 2, skip 2 stitches,half double crochet 3 (4/ 4/ 4) at the very end.

Turn, chain 2, half double crochet over romper front bottom including chain spaces. Total stitches are the same (14/16/16/18). Fasten off, weave and secure yarn ends. ❤

Directions for buttons are on the last page, but still you may want to use stronger buttons for the romper bottom, specially on bigger baby sizes.

Romper Collar

Row 1

We will make V stitches between stitches in Row 1.

Working on the RIGHT side, insert hook into space between last two stitches on the neckline, draw yarn, chain 1.

[Single crochet 1, chain 3, single crochet 1 more into same space between stitches, skip two stitches] repeat through the neckline. Please make sure you have an odd number of V stitches around the neckline. You can skip 1 stitch or 3 stitches instead of 2 stitches at the end if needed. Total 37 (39 / 43 / 45) V stitches made.

Row 2

Turn to WRONG side, chain 1. [Single crochet 1 into first V stitch, 5 double crochet into next V stitch] repeat the pattern through the row. Single crochet 1 into last V stitch. Total 18 (19/ 21/ 22) shell stitches made.

Row 3

Turn to RIGHT side, chain 6, double crochet 1 into first stitch, chain 3(counts as first V stitch).
[Skip to next single crochet stitch of previous row (we are skipping the shell), double crochet 1, chain 3, double crochet 1 more into same stitch, chain 3] repeat the pattern through the row. Don’t chain 3 after last V stitch. Total 19 (20/ 22/ 23) V stitches made.

Row 4

Turn, chain 1, single crochet 1 into first double crochet stitch.

[7 double crochet into first V stitch,single crochet 1 into center (3rd) stitch of previous shell (Row 2)] repeat the pattern through the row. Total 19 (20/ 22/ 23) shell stitches made.

Single crochet 1 into 3rd chain stitch at the very end.

Please notice that we are

  • working 7 double crochet into V stitches,
  • working over/around the 3 chain space between V stitches and working 1 single crochet into center stitch of previous (Row 2) shell stitch.

Row 5

Turn, chain 7, double crochet 1 into first stitch, chain 4.

[Skip to next single crochet stitch of previous row (we are skipping the shell), double crochet 1, chain 4, double crochet 1 more into same stitch, chain 4] repeat the pattern through the row. Don’t chain 4 after last V stitch. Total 20 (21/ 23/ 24) V stitches made.

Row 6

Turn, chain 3, double crochet 4 into first V stitch.[Single crochet 1 into center (4th) stitch of previous shell (Row 4) 7 double crochet into next V] repeat the pattern through the row until last V stitch. Double crochet 4 into last V stitch. We made a half shell stitch on both ends and 18 (19/21/22) shell stitches in between. Row 7 for size 1-2 years

Turn, chain 1, single crochet 1 into first stitch.
[Skip to next single crochet stitch of previous row (we are skipping the shell), double crochet 1, chain 4, double crochet 1 more into same stitch, chain 4] repeat the pattern through the row. Don’t chain 4 after last V stitch. Single crochet 1 into last stitch. Total 23 V stitches made.

Row 8 for size 1-2 years

Turn, chain 1, single crochet 1 into first stitch.
[9 double crochet into next V stitch, single crochet 1 into center (4th) stitch of previous shell (Row 6)] repeat the pattern through the row. Single crochet 1 into last stitch. Total 23 shell stitches made.

Back opening & button loop

Mark your button loop position on the neckline. Make one button loop as you are working single crochet stitches around back openning.
Turn sideways, chain 1, starting and finishing with both edges, single crochet downwards and upwards over collar ends and back opening. Button loop: Chain 7, single crochet 1 more into same position marked for button loop. Continue to single crochet over the back opening and collar. Total number of stitches are not so important. You can work 1 stitch over side of each double crochet rows, 1 stitch into lines between rows. Please make sure you work the same number of stitches on both sides.

Fasten off and secure yarn end. ❤

Button – make 3 – PLEASE SEW SAFE. ❤

Crochet buttons are used on this design. You may prefer stronger buttons on romper bottom for size other than 0-3 months.

Make a magic loop, chain 2. Half double crochet 7 into the loop, pull the yarn tail tight to close up. Join the round by slip stitch over first half double crochet stitch.

Fasten off, draw yarn tail to wrong side of the button.

Sew on opposite to button loop/buttonholes on romper back and bottom opening.❤

Bow tie for romper front – Optional

Make 50 chain stitches for the bow. Starting from 2nd chain stitch from the hook, slip stitch over chain stitches.

  • Fasten off, weave and secure yarn ends.
  • Make a bow around a stitch in the front center of collar last row. ❤❤❤
